30 September and 1 October 2025
Academia Belgica, Rome, Italy
On 30 September and 1 October 2025, the Museums of Bruges (Musea Brugge) and the Academia Belgica will host the conference “(Re)searching connections: Artists’ international social networks, 1750–1914.” This two-day event presents recent and ongoing research into the social networks of artists who lived, studied, and worked abroad during the long nineteenth century. Our aim is to deepen the understanding of the transnational connections that “make” art history.
The program is the result of a peer-reviewed selection following an open call for papers, and brings together insights from international scholars, spanning a broad chronological and geographical scope, while connecting art history, sociology, and digital humanities. Keynote lectures will be delivered by Giovanna Capitelli (Universitร Roma Tre), Giovanna Ceserani (Stanford University) and France Nerlich (Musรฉe d’Orsay). Registration is now open.
๐ฌ The main conference language is English, with some presentations in French.
๐️ Participation is free of charge, but registration is required by 20 September 2025.
๐ Please visit the conference website for details and to register.
