Website "Facing the Late Victorians"

There is now a website for "Facing the Late Victorians: Portraits of Writers and Artists from the Mark Samuels Lasner Collection," an exhibition to take place at the Henry B. Plant Museum, Tampa, FL, from 5 March through 5 June 2010. The exhibition is occasioned in part by the 2010 annual conference of the Nineteenth Century Studies Association (NCSA), "Theatricality and the Peformative in the Long Nineteenth Century," 11-13 March 2010, hosted by the University of Tampa.

Facing the Late Victorians features portraits of dozens of well-known figures such as Oscar Wilde, George Eliot, Aubrey Beardsley, George Bernard Shaw, J. M. Barrie, H. G. Wells, Arthur Conan Doyle, Ellen Terry, Thomas Hardy, Henry James, Kate Greenaway, William Morris, Max Beerbohm, Sarah Bernhardt, James McNeill Whistler, and John Singer Sargent. The drawings, prints, photographs, manuscripts, and books—many rarely seen—are drawn from the Mark Samuels Lasner Collection, on loan to the University of Delaware Library. Margaret D. Stetz, the exhibition’s curator, is the Mae and Robert Carter Professor of Women’s Studies and Professor of Humanities at the University of Delaware.
